This is long, but how do you working moms do it? I need help!?
I have a 6 year old boy who is in first grade. I also have a 5 1/2 month old baby girl. I work full time from 9:00 am til 5:30 pm. How do you working moms handle everything? I mean it is such a struggle to get everything done before bed time. My hubs coaches high school football with his dad, so during football season he isn’t home to help at all. Football is over as of last Friday, but he still has to go out there this week to help clean up. So, here is how my night usually goes:
Get home at 6 pm
Get Rylee’s bags cleaned out from where she was at her grandmother’s house (dirty clothes, bottle bag, etc)
Feed Rylee her supper
Get Jaden’s bookbag out while he has a snack and I go through to see what homework he has
I usually put Rylee down for a short nap around 6:30-7:00
I try to start supper
Then I get Jaden’s homework done-which if any of you have had first graders, you know how hard that is. He has to read his story (which consists of 3 stories in one), study his sight words, study his 10 spelling words, do a math sheet, either write his spelling words twice each or write ten sentences with each of his spelling words, and do a packet of english/language papers. The packet is due on Friday-she sends it home on Monday. The story and words are to be studied nightly, but everything else is due the next day. Getting Jaden to do his homework is like trying to lasso a gnat. It usually takes at least 1-2 hours a night.
By this time Rylee is awake and wants to be held and played with. Sometimes she will sit in her jumperoo and sometimes she won’t.
Then I have to get baths for the kids around 8 or 8:30, get PJs on, and get settled for bed.
Rylee then takes a bottle and usually goes to bed around 9 or 9:30.
After she goes to bed, I finally get to eat supper and sit for a few minutes and talk to my hubby while he (of course) watches football or some other sport
Then I get up from the couch and wash dishes (and bottles)
Then I fix bottles for the next day, get Rylee’s clothes, diapers, and food together for the next day, get Jaden’s bookbag ready for the next day
At this point I try to pick up the dirty clothes that are thrown everywhere around the house and pick up random stuff
By 10:30 or 11 I am wore out and so ready for bed, so I go to bed
Rylee gets up between 4-5 for a bottle, then back to sleep until usually between 8-8:30
Jaden has to be up at 7 so I get him up and get him ready for school and he leaves at 7:45 and then I get Rylee’s bottles together in her cooler bag, and finish up odds and ends and take a shower and be out of the house by 8:30.
Am I msising something?? How on earth do you guys get anything done around the house??? I am so stressed because I can’t get anything done. My hubs is a social butterfly and wants to invite people over all the time and I can’t stand for my house to be a wreck when people come over. I don’t know what to do!
Have you thought about hiring a nanny to watch your youngest in your home? If you can afford it then that would be your best bet because she can do light housekeeping and laundry while you work. You might have to pay a little extra but the stress off your back will be huge.
I am a nanny and I also have 4 of my own children but my children are older now, 15, 15, 12 and 9. I care for twin boys who are 1 yr old and I do the laundry and light cleaning like sweeping washing floor, dishes, bottles, vacuum, tidy up etc… When their mom comes home she is has time to relax with them because the laundry is done and the house is cleaned up and a nanny can even start dinner for you. Seriously if you can afford it it’s worth it if you find the right person you can trust.
Maybe Grandma would be willing to come and care for the baby at your house and for a small fee would help out with some cleaning and laundry?
When my kids were little I would stay home because it made the most sense rather than paying for childcare for 4 children. Either that or my husband and I worked opposite shifts and when he was home mornings he would do some cleaning and laundry to help out.
It does get easier. My boys all do chores and are pretty independent now so that is a huge help. I get home around 4:20 from work and most of the chores are done. I just need to finish up laundry and do dinner. I work from 7:30 until 4:00.

Oh my goodness gracious! I admire you and the working mommies out there SO much. I would not be able to keep up with that and still have any zest for life. Wow, your hubby does not sound like a whole lot of help, lol. That’s okay, mine isn’t either.
I don’t know if you have extra money to do this, but my mother had 6 kids and worked so she paid for someone to clean her house once a week. Because lets face it, when could you possibly have the time to clean? I would either try to get your husband to miraculously start pitching in A LOT or give Merry Maids a call. It would be one less thing to worry about.
