Do you ever watch "Rambo III" and find it ironic Rambo fought with the same guys we're fighting against now :]?
The basic premise of the 1988 film is Rambo helping the Mujahideen drive the Soviets out of Afghanistan, and now us Americans are the ones fighting the same Mujahideen (a.k.a., the Taliban).

It’s a bit ironic, watching that film again, isn’t it?

If you want a better, more accurate perception of America’s involvement with the Mujahadeen, watch Charlie Wilson’s War.

The thing is, most adults were killed in the Afghan war w/ Russia. Our actions in Afghanistan were covert, we gave them weapons, but they didn’t know who the source was.

So when the war was over, you basically had a country of children with weapons who didn’t know who helped them. That’s a recipe for disaster. We tried normalizing relations with the Taliban, but that didn’t work out. The elders that remained in Afghanistan were religious fanatics and they created a theocratic state in Afghanistan.

WE are the ones who put the taliban into power in the early 80’s. We were backing them and Osama bin Laden against the Soviets.

Did you ever think that in real life with fought with the Soviets against Germany, and in 1946 the roles were reversed cause we woke up to the greater evil.

Yeah, I do.
I also find it ironic that we helped install Saddam Hussein in office because Iraq was fighting Iran, and they were one of our biggest enemies, due to that whole hostage crisis thing in the early 80’s.
